To celebrate the arrival of its newest piece of gear, a British-made Premier drum kit, Sad Song Studio hosted Seattle drum legend Gregg Keplinger last week. Keplinger, an accomplished percussionist, master drum builder, and ‘tonal guru’ to such bands as Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, and Our Lady Peace, spent the day at Sad Song dialing in the drums, and getting them into recording condition. “We wanted to have something (drum kit) in here that people would want to play, would sound great on recordings, and that would add to the flexibility of the studio…I think we got that”, says Melodrama Recordings President Carter Hartsell. “When it comes to getting the most sound out of a drum kit, is there any better choice than Gregg (Keplinger)?”
